Building a New Standard for Personalized Care at Home

When we started Amicare, it wasn’t just about technology — it was personal.
I’ve lived the weight of caregiving firsthand. As a teenager in Uganda, I helped care for a loved one with terminal cancer. It was one of the most emotionally demanding and life-shaping experiences of my life. Years later, while supporting Canadian care facilities reduce viral load during the COVID-19 pandemic, I saw again — this time through the lens of a frontline support worker — how under-resourced, overstretched, and emotionally taxing our current care systems can be.
These moments were painful, but they were also clarifying.
Care is a deeply human experience. And yet too often, it’s treated as transactional, impersonal, or inaccessible. That’s what we set out to change.
Introducing Amicare
Amicare is a mobile-first, on-demand home care marketplace designed to help families find trusted, independent caregivers for non-medical support: companionship, errands, light housekeeping, mobility assistance, and more. We’re focused on enabling seniors to safely age in place, with dignity and comfort, while giving families peace of mind and caregivers the autonomy they deserve.
We’re launching in limited beta on August 7, starting with Brampton, Scarborough, and Mississauga. This soft rollout lets us listen closely, improve rapidly, and scale responsibly — one neighborhood at a time.
Why This Matters Now
Across Ontario, and across Canada, our care systems are in crisis. Long-term care homes and hospitals face chronic staffing shortages, ballooning waitlists, and administrative bottlenecks that limit the reach of even the most well-intentioned care providers.
Amicare is not here to compete with institutions. We’re here to complement them, to act as a flexible, scalable layer of support that fills the gaps families feel most acutely.
By combining real-time onboarding, cultural compatibility matching, verified profiles, and transparent pricing, we’re working to make care faster to access, easier to personalize, and safer to trust.
